Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated to promote sustainable towns and cities globally. The New York Office supports the Executive Director's office, focusing on executive, programme, and partnership functions. This internship role is situated within the UN-Habitat New York Office, contributing to its capacity to support UN inter-governmental bodies and inter-agency collaboration.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to enhance the UN-Habitat New York Office's capacity to provide substantive support to UN General Assembly and inter-governmental bodies. The intern will assist in planning and organizing inter-agency collaboration and UN reform activities. The role offers a dynamic learning environment where the intern can contribute to virtual and in-person activities, conduct research, draft documents, engage with diverse stakeholders, and support programmatic and administrative tasks, thereby gaining practical experience in international urban development and UN operations.
Responsibilities
The intern will contribute to in-person and virtual activities, including webinars and online meetings. Responsibilities include collaborative research and analysis, drafting and reviewing documents on various topics, and engaging with international stakeholders. The role involves providing general office support, such as processing correspondence, maintaining SharePoint records, and taking meeting minutes. Additionally, the intern will assist in organizing events and training sessions, preparing agendas, co-drafting background materials, and providing technical support for virtual events. Research support for papers and reports, data collection and analysis, and trend analysis are key duties. The intern will also support stakeholder engagement, partnership programs, and outreach activities, including communications, social media, and website updates.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, proficiency in organizing events, logistics, and stakeholder coordination is desirable. Experience in performing analytical research and drafting reports, presentations, and other written content is also considered beneficial.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard software (Microsoft Office Suite), ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds, event organization, logistics planning, stakeholder coordination, analytical research, report drafting, presentation skills, communication, social media engagement, and website content updates.
