Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is dedicated to promoting sustainable urban development globally. The New York Office supports the Executive Director's functions, focusing on executive, programme, and partnership activities. This internship role is situated within the UN-Habitat New York Office, contributing to its capacity to support inter-governmental bodies and UN reform.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to enhance the UN-Habitat New York Office's capacity to provide substantive support to UN inter-governmental bodies and assist in planning and organizing inter-agency collaborations and UN reform activities. The intern will gain practical experience in a dynamic environment, contributing to advocacy campaigns, social media updates, event support, and administrative tasks. The role offers a learning opportunity to understand UN-Habitat's mandate and operations, contributing to the promotion of sustainable towns and cities and reducing inequality.
Responsibilities
Contribute to in-person and virtual activities, including webinars and online meetings. Update UN-Habitat's social media platforms daily (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). Conduct analytical research for media and advocacy campaigns. Provide media support for events, including photography and video archiving. Assist with administrative tasks such as formatting documents, proofreading, and running basic reports. Distribute relevant articles to UN staff. Create graphic design materials. Support UN-Habitat's advocacy and outreach efforts. Research, compile, draft, and edit information for public materials and website content. Assist with event organization, website management, and material distribution.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Desirable experience includes proficiency in event organization, logistics, stakeholder coordination, and social media communications and advocacy.

Interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse cultural backgrounds, willingness to understand different opinions, computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite), event organization, logistics planning, stakeholder coordination, social media communication and advocacy, research, drafting, editing, and content creation.
