Job Purpose
This Information Security Engineer role serves as a key contact point within the Field Information Management and Technology Office (FIMTO) and the Information Management and Technology Department (IMTD). The purpose is to protect the organization's information assets by participating in UNRWA-wide security initiatives, acting as a focal point for local security processes, and managing business continuity and disaster recovery activities. The role involves daily monitoring of security events, responding to incidents, implementing and managing security tools, conducting technical evaluations, and contributing to the development of security policies and procedures. Additionally, the incumbent will coordinate vulnerability management, participate in audits, and support security awareness programs, ultimately contributing to the overall security strategy and planning.
Responsibilities
The Information Security Engineer is responsible for acting as the information security contact point, collaborating with FIMTO and IMTD teams. Key duties include participating in organization-wide security activities, serving as a focal point for location-specific security processes, and managing Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery efforts. The role involves daily monitoring of security events, incident response, and knowledge sharing among security staff. Implementation and management of security tools such as firewalls, anti-malware, EDR, and VPNs are crucial, alongside executing technical evaluations and penetration tests. The engineer will contribute to policy development, test new security solutions, and coordinate vulnerability management processes, including patching and reporting. Participation in security audits, assessments, and the implementation of recommendations, both local and UNRWA-wide, is required. The role also encompasses coordinating security awareness initiatives, contributing to security strategy and budget planning, and staying updated on technological advancements in cybersecurity.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in IT cybersecurity, software development, risk management, or infrastructure is required. Experience should demonstrate a strong understanding of information security principles and practices within a relevant technical domain.
