Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), established in 1999, is the UN system's focal point for coordinating disaster reduction efforts globally. It guides, monitors, and reports on the Sendai Framework, promoting synergies among disaster reduction activities. The Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean (ROAC) is based in Panama City.
Job Purpose
This two-month, unpaid, full-time remote internship at the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean aims to advance the integration of technology in disaster risk reduction (DRR). The intern will support the achievement of specific deliverables related to technology and innovation for risk-informed development. This includes promoting technological innovation and digital transformation for better risk data governance, management, and analysis, and enabling governments and stakeholders to leverage technology for large-scale use of risk data in DRR efforts.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the advancement of technology integration within disaster risk reduction (DRR) initiatives. This role directly contributes to achieving specific work plan indicators focused on technology and innovation for risk-informed development. Key responsibilities include supporting efforts that promote technological innovation and digital transformation to enhance the governance, management, and analysis of risk data. Additionally, the intern will assist in initiatives aimed at enabling governments and stakeholders to effectively utilize innovation and technology for the widespread application of risk data in DRR.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field. A demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs is essential.
Skills
Knowledge of standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams), ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds, willingness to understand differing opinions, fluency in Spanish and English.
