Organizational Context
The Department of Global Communications, through its Visitors Services Section, engages and educates the public worldwide about the United Nations' ideals and activities. This internship is based in New York City within the Guided Tours Unit, directly interfacing with the public to provide tours and information about UN Headquarters.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Guided Tours Unit within the Department of Global Communications. The intern will assist in educating the public about the UN's work by engaging directly with visitors, providing information, and supporting outreach activities. The role contributes to fostering public understanding and support for the United Nations' mission and operations through direct public interaction and communication efforts.
Responsibilities
Assist in planning and organizing public outreach activities to educate about the UN's work. Support the organization of guided tours, briefings, and events for visitors. Conduct research on UN thematic issues. Provide general office support, including drafting communications, managing files and databases, and event organization. Assist in capturing and editing photographs and videos for promotional purposes. Draft media content for Visitors Services platforms. Contribute to the development and implementation of revenue-generating activities and products for visitors. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a relevant field of study is necessary. Familiarity with new technologies like VR/AR and AI is desirable, as is the ability to take photos/videos with basic editing skills.
