Organizational Context
The Department of Global Communications, through its Visitors Services Section and Exhibits Unit in New York City, engages and educates the global public on UN priority issues. This internship is within the Exhibits Unit, which facilitates the review and production of thematic, informative, and educational exhibits for UN Headquarters and its website, supporting the UN's outreach mandate.
Job Purpose
This internship offers an opportunity to participate in the day-to-day work of the UN Exhibits Unit, contributing to its mission of engaging and educating the public worldwide. The role supports the development, production, and dissemination of exhibits that highlight important UN initiatives. The intern will gain practical experience in communication, research, design, and event support related to UN exhibitions, assisting in outreach efforts to foster global understanding and support for the United Nations' ideals and activities. This role is crucial for enhancing the visibility and impact of UN exhibitions.
Responsibilities
Assist in communication and outreach activities for UN exhibitions, including drafting and editing website and social media content, and monitoring social media output. Research, compile, and organize materials for the development of UN exhibitions. Support the design of exhibit materials as needed. Help plan and organize exhibit installations and opening events. Perform general office functions such as drafting correspondence, maintaining files and records, and organizing meetings. Provide additional support to the Visitor Services Section as required. Undertake other duties as assigned to contribute to the overall work of the Exhibits Unit.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study relevant to the internship is necessary. Familiarity with standard office software (MS Word, PowerPoint) is required. Experience with design software (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva) and the ability to draft short articles or social media posts are desirable.
