Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), established in 1999, serves as the UN system's focal point for coordinating disaster reduction efforts and ensuring synergies. It guides, monitors, and reports on the Sendai Framework implementation, catalyzing global awareness and action. This role is situated within the Risk Knowledge, Monitoring and Capacity Development Branch, specifically at the Global Education Training Institute (GETI) in Incheon, Republic of Korea, reporting to a Programme Management Officer.
Job Purpose
This role contributes to building partnerships and fostering communities of practice in disaster risk reduction (DRR) within North-East Asia. The incumbent will collaborate on collecting and disseminating best practices and case studies for capacity building and advocacy. A key responsibility is contributing to the development and implementation of training modules on the Sendai Framework, ensuring alignment with global agendas like the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The position supports UNDRR's global capacity development strategy, focusing on strengthening the capabilities of governments and stakeholders in DRR and Sendai Framework implementation. The role involves contributing to the GETI's work plan, ensuring high-quality outputs, and assisting with programme activities, budget, and funding. Management of junior staff or consultants may also be required.
Responsibilities
The Programme Management Officer will build partnerships with DRR experts and stakeholders in North-East Asia. They will contribute to initiatives that establish communities of practice and promote best practices across the region. Collaboration with the Knowledge Management section is essential for collecting and capturing DRR good practices and case studies for UNDRR's platforms. The role involves developing and implementing training modules on Sendai Framework implementation and monitoring, ensuring consistency with the 2030 Agenda, Paris Agreement, and New Urban Agenda, and evaluating their impact. The incumbent will contribute to UNDRR's global capacity development strategy and the implementation of the Sendai Framework in North-East Asia. Participation in developing and implementing GETI's capacity building and training programs, ensuring high-quality outputs, and contributing to work plans, budgets, and funding activities are also key duties. The role may include supervising junior staff or consultants.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in programme/project management, capacity development, or a related area is required. Experience in disaster risk reduction related to the Sendai Framework is also required. Experience in capacity building processes and training delivery is desirable, as is at least one year of experience with the UN or a comparable international organization.
