Food Systems Transformation Consultant
Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is engaged in a regional food systems transformation process, launched by the UN Secretary-General. This initiative aims to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a food systems approach. The role supports the development of Libya's national food systems transformation pathway.
Job Purpose
This consultancy supports the preparation of Libya's national food systems transformation pathway, aligning with the UN's global initiative to address interconnected challenges like hunger, climate change, and poverty. The role involves assessing current food systems, identifying stakeholders, facilitating consultations, and drafting a pathway document. It requires close coordination with Libyan government officials and ESCWA, ensuring national priorities are integrated into regional processes and feedback loops are maintained. The objective is to translate agreed priorities into a concrete plan for food systems transformation in Libya, contributing to broader SDG achievement.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include preparing a background note on Libya's food systems, identifying relevant indicators, and collecting data. The consultant will design and administer an online survey to pinpoint food system challenges and transformation priorities, analyzing results and preparing presentations for stakeholder dialogues. This involves identifying national stakeholders, contributing to the organization of the national food systems dialogue, and proposing an outline for the national pathway report. The role also includes delivering presentations, supporting Libya's participation in regional meetings, and drafting and finalizing the national food systems dialogue report and the preliminary national food systems pathway document.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of experience related to food systems, climate change, and/or sustainable development planning is required. Strong analytical and writing skills are desirable, as are excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
