Organizational Context

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) in Brindisi, Italy, provides essential Supply Chain, Geospatial, and IT services globally. This Transport Assistant role is within the 3R Programme Team of the Supply Chain Service, reporting to the Logistics Officer/3R Programme Manager.

Job Purpose

The Transport Assistant supports the 3R (Return, Refurbishment, Reuse) Programme by managing the maintenance and repair of UN-owned vehicles and equipment returned to UNGSC. This involves administering contractor agreements, conducting inspections, compiling reports on fleet status, and determining technical specifications for repairs and spare parts. The role also contributes to data analysis, reporting, and knowledge management to support decision-making and operational efficiency within the Supply Chain Service.

Responsibilities

Monitor and manage the maintenance and repair of UN-owned vehicle fleet and associated assets returned for refurbishment. Administer contracts with external vendors for vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs. Conduct physical inspections and spot checks to ensure record accuracy. Compile reports on fleet maintenance, repair status, and redeployment. Supervise technical inspections of motor, heavy-duty, and engineering equipment. Determine technical specifications for maintenance and repair, and estimate spare parts requirements. Assist in data collection, analysis, and preparation of reports and presentations for information sharing and decision-making. Support data visualization and update informational materials. Perform ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in motor, heavy-duty, or engineering equipment maintenance, or transport operations is required. This requirement is reduced to five years for candidates holding a first-level university degree. Experience in supervising a workshop is desirable.
