Organizational Context
This position is within the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Tehran, part of the Department of Global Communications. UNIC Tehran serves as the primary source of UN information in Iran, promoting public understanding and support for UN aims. It engages local partners and brings the UN closer to the people, operating integrated with the Resident Coordinator Office.
Job Purpose
The Director, Information Centre, leads and manages the UNIC Tehran's work program, overseeing programmatic and administrative tasks essential for its operation. This includes budget management, staff supervision, and performance evaluation. The role involves conceptualizing, designing, and executing strategic communications and multimedia campaigns aligned with the UN's Global Communications Strategy. Key responsibilities include developing outreach to target audiences, setting dissemination standards, managing media relations, serving as a potential UN spokesperson, and overseeing digital platforms to enhance the UN's visibility and public engagement in Iran.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the UNIC Tehran's work program, including administrative and programmatic tasks such as budget preparation, reporting, and staff management. Develop and implement strategic multimedia communications campaigns and digital/social media activities in coordination with UNHQ. Build and maintain networks with media, government, civil society, and educational institutions. Provide substantive support to the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team on communications and advocacy, including promoting the UNSDCF and the 2030 Agenda. Serve as UN spokesperson, liaise with media, issue press releases, and manage UN Iran's digital platforms. Offer policy advice on public information issues, monitor media, and ensure accurate communication of UN policies. Coordinate UN system communications, chair the UN Communications Group, and provide crisis communications support. Supervise the organization of meetings and represent the UNIC at various forums. Ensure high-quality outputs and evaluate communication impact.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in public information, communications, journalism, or international relations, with at least three years at the international level. Required experience includes strategic and crisis communications, media engagement (traditional and digital), and resource administration (budget, HR). Experience with Iran's socio-political context and team supervision is also required. Experience within the UN system is desirable.
