Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is dedicated to promoting socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. As the UN's focal point for urbanization, it collaborates with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable communities. This internship is based in the UN-Habitat Subregional Office for Mexico, Cuba, and Central America in Mexico City.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Project Implementation Coordination area within the UN-Habitat Subregional Office for Mexico, Cuba, and Central America. The intern will assist in portfolio management, project follow-up, and the creation of essential tools and documents to enhance the office's operational effectiveness. The role contributes to UN-Habitat's mission of mitigating negative urbanization effects, promoting sustainable urban development, reducing urban poverty, and improving the quality of life for populations across the region. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in project implementation within an international development context.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the development, updating, and maintenance of the project portfolio management platform. Key duties include assisting in the follow-up and monitoring of project implementation milestones, outputs, and timelines for the office's active portfolio. The role involves providing support in preparing project synthesis documents and aiding in the programmatic coordination of joint missions, including drafting mission scopes, work agendas, and follow-up documentation. Additionally, the intern will support the preparation and follow-up of coordination meetings and offer substantive input and recommendations to the Project Implementation Coordinator for optimizing the area's operations.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Knowledge of standard software applications, including MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), SharePoint, Canva, and MS Teams, is required. Familiarity with HTML, data visualization tools, or project management software is desirable.
