DRIVER
Organizational Context
This position is within the Transport Unit of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC) in Bogotá. The role reports administratively to the Transport Unit and operationally to the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General's Office, supporting the Service Delivery Section.
Job Purpose
The driver is responsible for safely transporting authorized personnel and general cargo, making deliveries of parcels and documents between offices and institutions, and performing minor purchases. This includes collecting goods from customs, handling mail, meeting officials at the airport, and providing VIP and standby driver services. The role also involves ensuring the assigned vehicle is clean and well-maintained, performing minor repairs, logging fuel and maintenance, and reporting any vehicle damage or loss. Additionally, the driver may act as a team lead, assigning tasks and shifts to junior drivers, and performs other assigned duties to support mission operations.
Responsibilities
Safely operate vehicles for personnel and cargo transport. Deliver parcels, documents, and mail between offices and external institutions. Conduct minor purchases and collect urgent items from local suppliers, including customs clearance. Meet and assist official personnel at the airport. Maintain assigned vehicles through daily checks (oil, water, battery, brakes, tires), perform minor repairs, and ensure cleanliness. Provide VIP and standby driver services. Report any vehicle damage or tool loss. Maintain accurate logs for fuel consumption and maintenance. Adhere to procedures in case of accidents. Act as a team lead for junior drivers, assigning tasks and shifts. Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in driver services is required. Experience driving various vehicle types (light passenger, sedans, SUVs, ambulances, trucks, vans) and a safe driving record are essential. Experience driving armored vehicles is required. Experience within a UN or similar international organization in a post-conflict environment is desirable.
