The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) provides global leadership, operational support, and oversight for the UN security management system. It enables the safe and effective delivery of UN programs in challenging environments by managing security risks. This role is based in Yangon, Myanmar, a non-family duty station with 'C' hardship designation.
Job Purpose
The Associate Field Security Coordination Officer/Training Officer is responsible for coordinating and delivering security training programs, including SSAFE/IFAK courses, using adult-learning principles and scenario-based exercises. The role involves conducting training needs assessments, adjusting training content to evolving threats, and preparing security plans and management documents. This position contributes to the UN's mission of enabling program activities through trusted security leadership and solutions, ensuring the safety and security of personnel and operations in complex environments.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and deliver SSAFE/IFAK courses, facilitating adult-learning and scenario-based training. Conduct training needs assessments and plan/coordinate safety and security trainings. Adjust training scenarios to reflect current threats while adhering to core curricula. Prepare draft security plans and management documents, and monitor their implementation. Maintain communication with UNSMS entities and assist in evaluating security measure preparedness and compliance. Conduct security surveys and assessments, and support the implementation of UNSMS safety and security policies. Collaborate with authorities and international institutions, providing security briefings and training. Prepare incident reports, support emergency communication systems, and assist in developing contingency plans. Coordinate protection operations and respond to crisis events.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in security, risk, disaster, or emergency management is required. Experience in conducting safety and security training is essential. Experience within the UN Common System or similar international organizations, and in humanitarian crisis responses, is desirable.
