Consultant - Data Analyst
Organizational Context
The Office of the Special Coordinator on Improving the United Nations Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OSCSEA) supports UN efforts to strengthen responses to sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) across peacekeeping, humanitarian, development, and human rights sectors. This role is situated within OSCSEA at UNHQ, New York, contributing to data system innovation.
Job Purpose
This role focuses on generating, analyzing, and communicating high-quality, data-driven insights to enhance system-wide SEA reporting and support evidence-based decision-making. The Data Analyst will improve data flows, strengthen data quality and integrity, and develop advanced analytics and reporting capabilities. The position aims to foster a culture of continuous innovation in SEA data systems, enabling more responsive and impactful PSEA interventions across diverse operational contexts. The incumbent reports to the Special Coordinator, guided by innovative approaches considering digital transformation and data integrity.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include improving SEA data flows and practices across the UN system, collaborating with stakeholders to enhance systems like CMTS and iReport, and identifying/addressing data entry and reporting gaps. The role involves strengthening data quality and integrity by selecting reliable sources, leading updates to the iReport with enhanced visualization and validation protocols, and implementing analysis, reporting, and quality control capabilities. Additionally, the Data Analyst will identify and interpret trends using statistical and machine learning methods, develop protocols for public and periodic reporting via dashboards (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau), and lead improvements for the annual PSEA survey. Capacity building through training and user guidance for data focal points is also a core duty.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, information management, or statistics is required. Proficiency in handling complex data from various sources and analyzing large datasets with multiple stakeholders is necessary. Experience with data visualization applications (PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau) and business intelligence tools is also required.
