Organizational Context
The Anti-Racism Office, within the UN Secretariat's Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC), oversees and monitors the implementation of the Strategic Action Plan on Addressing Racism and Promoting Dignity for All. Its mandate is to address racism within the UN Secretariat and foster a zero-tolerance approach. The office operates through advocacy, transparency, and accountability pillars.
Job Purpose
This internship within the Anti-Racism Office provides an opportunity to support the UN Secretariat's efforts to combat racism and promote dignity for all. Interns will contribute to the office's three core pillars: Advocacy, by assisting in awareness campaigns, material preparation, and event organization; Transparency, by supporting data compilation, analysis, and reporting; and Accountability, by conducting research and assisting in drafting reports and briefing materials. The role aims to enhance knowledge, foster dialogue, and promote behavioral change regarding anti-racism within the UN.
Responsibilities
Support the preparation of internal communication and outreach materials to promote an anti-racism culture. Assist in drafting background notes, talking points, summaries, and articles. Help organize dialogues, discussions, and staff engagement activities on anti-racism topics. Coordinate and document advocacy activities and events. Contribute to initiatives promoting participation in anti-racism programs and events celebrating diversity. Compile, clean, and organize qualitative and quantitative information for analysis and reporting. Prepare presentations, tables, charts, and graphs. Maintain reference materials, trackers, and databases. Conduct desk research on anti-racism, human rights, and related topics. Support drafting of reports and briefing materials. Assist with meeting notes, action points, and document management. Perform other assigned duties under supervisor's guidance.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Academic or research exposure to human rights, anti-racism, racial discrimination, social justice, or public policy is desirable.
Skills
Research and information compilation, analytical skills, written communication, drafting reports and materials, event organization support, data management, standard software proficiency (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams), knowledge of human rights and anti-racism principles.
