Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), established in 1999, serves as the UN system's focal point for coordinating disaster reduction efforts. It operates globally, guiding, monitoring, and reporting on the Sendai Framework. This internship is based in the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean in Panama City.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the development of the Regional Assessment Report 2027 (RAR27) within the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean. The intern will contribute to critical research and reporting activities, assisting in the review of technical inputs and literature on disaster risk reduction. Key contributions include supporting data analysis and curation, and aiding in the drafting of report chapters. This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in disaster risk reduction and international reporting within a UN framework, under the guidance of the Risk Knowledge Programme Management Officer.
Responsibilities
The intern will review technical inputs from background papers and available literature relevant to disaster risk reduction. Responsibilities include coordinating virtual and in-person meetings to facilitate discussions and information exchange. The intern will provide support in data analysis and data curation, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of information used for the report. Additionally, the intern will assist in the drafting of chapters for the Regional Assessment Report 2027 (RAR27), contributing to the final output of this significant publication. This role operates under the supervision of the Risk Knowledge Programme Management Officer.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions. A field of study closely related to disaster risk reduction is essential.
Skills
Proficiency in standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams). Ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds. Fluency in Spanish and English. Knowledge of disaster risk reduction literature and data analysis is beneficial.
