Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the UN system's focal point for coordinating disaster reduction efforts and ensuring synergies. The Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean (ROAC) is central to strengthening interagency and partnership engagement across key strategic platforms, contributing to global policy and capacity-building initiatives.
Job Purpose
This six-month, full-time, in-person internship at the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean in Panama City aims to support the office's mandate in disaster risk reduction. The intern will contribute to strengthening interagency and partnership engagement across strategic platforms, supporting regional and national implementation of the Sendai Framework, and increasing global awareness. This role provides a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in disaster risk reduction coordination, policy support, and stakeholder engagement within a key UN entity.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the coordination and follow-up of interagency collaboration within the Regional Collaborative Platform LAC and the Issue-Based Coalition on Climate Change and Resilience. Responsibilities include providing support for national and regional engagements with the UN System, assisting in preparing agendas, background materials, research, and summaries for various groups. The intern will also support the planning and coordination of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (RP27), including research and stakeholder mapping, and assist in organizing joint events and advocacy sessions. Additionally, the role involves contributing to documentation of best practices, supporting partnership databases, drafting relevant documents, and liaising with partners and stakeholders.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is required. Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is essential.
