The Communication Division enhances UNEP's profile worldwide by communicating core messages to stakeholders. This role is based in Nairobi within the Communication Division.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for contributing to a cutting-edge web communication strategy, managing the development and enhancement of UNEP's web platforms (Drupal, DSpace) and Knowledge Repository. The purpose is to ensure these platforms are functional, user-friendly, and aligned with organizational objectives. The incumbent will provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with IT teams. Additionally, the role involves business analysis to translate stakeholder needs into functional requirements, conceptualizing new digital solutions, and ensuring content and functionality meet business objectives. The position also focuses on developing and implementing web content strategies, managing content workflows, sourcing high-quality content, and overseeing digital marketing campaigns to drive engagement around key environmental issues.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement web communication strategies aligned with UNEP's mandate and brand identity. Manage the development, maintenance, and enhancement of web platforms (Drupal, DSpace) and the Knowledge Repository, ensuring functionality, user-friendliness, and interoperability. Set technical standards for site accessibility and guide web developers. Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues for internal stakeholders and end-users. Conduct business analysis to define requirements for websites and campaign sites, translating them into functional specifications. Conceptualize new digital products and solutions. Serve as a focal point for stakeholders, ensuring web content and functionality meet business objectives. Collaborate with designers and content creators to maintain visual consistency and branding. Provide training on content management systems and best practices. Develop and implement web content strategies and manage content workflows, including editing and translation. Source, optimize, and quality-control website content. Develop and oversee organic and paid digital marketing strategies and campaigns across various channels. Create measurement frameworks to track performance, monitor key metrics using analytics tools, and analyze data for optimization. Implement A/B testing, SEO improvements, and usability enhancements. Conduct market research and stay updated on digital marketing trends.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in developing and managing web and knowledge platforms for a large organization is required. This includes experience managing medium to large-scale technical projects, content management systems (e.g., Drupal), and repository software (e.g., DSpace). Two years of experience managing a diverse team is also required. Experience in digital media strategy, transformation, and campaigns is necessary. Experience coordinating change management within the UN system or similar organizations, using project management tools, and in data analytics is desirable.
