FIELD SECURITY ASSOCIATE
Organizational Context
The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) provides global leadership, operational support, and oversight for the UN security management system. It enables the safe and effective delivery of UN programs in challenging environments. This Field Security Associate role is based in Lima, Peru, supporting the Security Adviser in implementing security operations and managing safety and security for UN personnel within the Area of Responsibility.
Job Purpose
The Field Security Associate supports the Security Adviser in managing safety and security for UN personnel in the Area of Responsibility (AoR). This involves assisting in the collection and communication of security situation information, liaising with host government security organizations, and assessing security conditions. The role contributes to maintaining the UN Security Plan, monitoring security measures, and reporting security incidents. Additionally, the Associate supports security awareness training, provides advice on residential security, administers access control systems, and liaises with security service providers. The position offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in security risk management and contribute to the UN's mission of enabling program activities through trusted security leadership.
Responsibilities
Assists the Security Adviser in collecting, updating, and communicating security situation information within the Area of Responsibility (AoR). Liaises with host government security, military, and police, as well as NGOs. Assesses security situations and verifies information for analysis. Communicates security issues to UN agency heads and provides host country security advice. Maintains contact with UN agency Security Focal Points. Assists in preparing and reviewing the UN Security Plan and supports its implementation. Monitors the implementation of security measures from the Security Risk Management process. Reports security incidents affecting UN staff, offices, and assets, and assists in preparing security reports and assessments. Supports the organization and delivery of security awareness training and provides security orientations. Conducts security evaluations and advises on residential security measures, trends, and threats. Manages the warden system and maintains information on UN offices and residences. Administers a pass and ID system and liaises with commercial security providers. Provides general administrative support, including maintaining correspondence, databases, and meeting minutes.
Work Experience
Seven years of work experience in security, risk, disaster, or emergency areas is required. This experience can be in public or private service, such as national security, military, police, or a corporate environment. The minimum years of experience is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) is required. Experience with the UN system or international NGOs, diversified security communication systems, and analysis of security, crime, political, or military trends is desirable.
