Organizational Context
The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is a UN-established intergovernmental organization based in Kingston, Jamaica, responsible for organizing and controlling activities in the international seabed area. This role within the Executive Office of the Secretary General's Communications Unit aims to enhance understanding of ISA's mission and strategic objectives, and to strengthen its organizational communication capacity.
Job Purpose
The Communications Manager will develop, implement, and monitor a global communications strategy to promote ISA's mission and contributions to global goals. This involves creating diverse communication products, managing brand consistency, and overseeing content for various platforms, including website and social media. The role also focuses on organizing events, building strategic relationships with stakeholders, and coordinating internal communications to foster a culture of effective information sharing. A key objective is to increase the visibility and impact of ISA's work through strategic outreach and engagement, ensuring complex issues are communicated with clarity and accuracy to a wide range of audiences.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute a global communications strategy and content plan aligned with ISA's priorities. Create and manage a variety of communication products (speeches, press releases, web content, multimedia) to explain ISA's work to diverse stakeholders, ensuring brand consistency and adherence to editorial guidelines. Oversee the maintenance of information material libraries and publicly accessible resources. Lead the organization of special events and support conferences, webinars, and public events. Build and maintain strategic relationships with national and international partners, including Member States, UN agencies, and NGOs. Monitor and evaluate communication activities' impact, reporting on trends. Strengthen internal communications through improved systems for digital asset management and information sharing. Manage website updates, social media campaigns, and the publication process, including copy-editing, design, and dissemination. Function as a reporting officer for the Communications Unit, manage workplans, and oversee budget optimization for communication activities.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in public information, journalism, international relations, or intergovernmental organizations is required. Proven experience in managing communications and outreach campaigns, developing internal/external communications for international audiences, and managing digital channels (website, social media) is essential. Experience representing an international organization and building partnerships is desirable, as is team management experience.
Skills
Professionalism in communications strategy, campaign management, advocacy, media operations, and message targeting. Ability to produce clear, concise written products and use web content management systems. Strong communication skills (written and verbal), client orientation, and performance management capabilities. Ability to handle sensitive situations diplomatically and build productive relationships. Experience in digital channel management and event organization.
