INTERN - SOCIAL SCIENCES (GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), hosts this internship within its Social Development Division. Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in gender equality and women's empowerment within a UN context. The intern will support the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS) of ESCAP's Social Development Division. Key contributions include conducting research on gender-related issues, assisting in event organization, preparing written outputs, and supporting technical cooperation projects. The role is designed to offer hands-on experience in advancing gender equality and women's economic empowerment, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and ESCAP's mandate in the Asia-Pacific region. The internship offers a valuable opportunity to learn about international development work and contribute to meaningful initiatives.
Responsibilities
The intern will conduct research and data analysis on critical areas of gender equality and women's empowerment, including economic participation, leadership, and engagement in decision-making, as well as Sustainable Development Goals. Responsibilities include assisting in the organization and convening of meetings and workshops. The intern will contribute to the preparation of various written outputs and data visualizations, such as draft background papers, speeches, PowerPoints, and inputs for publications. Additionally, the role involves providing substantive and administrative support for technical cooperation projects focused on women's economic empowerment and the 2030 Agenda. The intern will perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Section, working full-time under supervision.
Work Experience
No prior working experience is required for this internship. However, experience in research and writing, summarizing information for various formats, organizing workshops and meetings, or working on gender equality and women's empowerment issues (particularly care economy or entrepreneurship) would be advantageous.
