INTERN - SOCIAL SCIENCES (GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT COMMUNICATIONS)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), hosts this internship within its Social Development Division. The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS) focuses on gender equality, women's empowerment, and disability inclusion. This role supports GESIS's communications efforts.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the communications work of the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS) within ESCAP's Social Development Division. The intern will contribute to raising awareness and disseminating information on gender equality and women's empowerment. This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in communications within a UN context, assisting in the production of various communication materials and supporting event organization, all while contributing to the division's mandate.
Responsibilities
The intern will draft content for public information materials, including social media, website articles, news stories, and blogs. Responsibilities also include producing multimedia content such as infographics, presentation slides, event flyers, and short videos. The role involves coordinating internal communications with ESCAP's gender focal point network and participating in UN system-wide meetings. Additionally, the intern will conduct research, compile information for reports, assist in organizing events like seminars and workshops, and provide photography/video coverage as needed. The intern will perform other duties assigned by the Chief of Section.
Work Experience
No prior work experience is required for this internship. However, experience in research and writing, organizing and supporting workshops/meetings, or working on gender equality and women's empowerment issues would be advantageous.
