Organizational Context
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) serves as the UN headquarters in Africa, supporting key UN programs like UNEP and UN-Habitat. UNON provides essential administrative, security, conference, and IT services. This Information Systems Officer role is within the ICT Service, Conference and Client Support Section, reporting to the Chief of Section, and will oversee technical conference and meeting services for diverse clients.
Job Purpose
The Information Systems Officer is responsible for providing operational and technical leadership in the planning, management, and delivery of advanced conference and meeting technology services. This includes overseeing systems such as CMSI, RSI, AV distribution, webstreaming, video conferencing, and digital signage. The role involves leading a support team, mentoring junior staff, managing contracts, and ensuring accurate billing and cost recovery. A key focus is on gathering requirements, monitoring performance, driving continuous improvement, and proposing new policies and standards to optimize conference technology support. The officer will also manage equipment upgrades, ensure business continuity, and contribute to digital transformation initiatives by adopting emerging technologies to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Provide operational leadership for conference technologies including CMSI, RSI, AV distribution, webstreaming, video conferencing, and digital signage. Offer technical leadership and work direction to the conference support team, including mentoring and supervising junior staff and contract personnel. Collaborate with the Division of Conference Support to plan meetings, focusing on ICTS and conference technology needs, and ensure accurate billing and cost recovery. Develop cost proposals, prepare procurement plans, and manage contractual services for conference technology. Gather and monitor AV and ICT requirements for meetings, measure progress against plans, and implement corrective actions based on customer feedback. Propose and optimize policies, standards, and operating procedures for comprehensive conference technology support. Plan and execute equipment upgrades to maintain service continuity and customer satisfaction. Develop and implement information standards, prepare technical documentation, and create training materials. Ensure business continuity through SLAs and ERM, produce KPI reports, and support digital transformation by adopting new technologies. Analyze data to identify trends and present insights for decision-making.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in planning, designing, developing, operating, and maintaining large-scale conference management and interpretation systems, including AV control, hybrid meeting platforms, webstreaming, and video conferencing. Two years of experience managing an ICTS technical team or service desk is required. Desirable experience includes RSI platforms, digital signage, AV in international organizations, data analytics, and AV Over IP infrastructure.
