Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna seeks an intern for its Strategic Planning and Inter-Agency Affairs Unit. This role supports the Unit's coordination and planning functions, contributing to UNODC's engagement with Member States and other UN entities. The internship offers a 4-6 month duration.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in strategic planning and inter-agency affairs within UNODC. The intern will support the drafting and preparation of various UN and UNODC documents, including publications, reports, and presentations. A key aspect of the role involves maintaining and managing information repositories to ensure accuracy and accessibility. The intern will also assist in coordinating UNODC's contributions to global reports and respond to information requests from other UN entities and leadership offices. Furthermore, the role includes supporting the design of visual materials for web and presentations, and assisting with technical arrangements for events, thereby contributing to the Unit's operational efficiency and outreach.
Responsibilities
Contribute to drafting and preparing UN and UNODC publications, briefing notes, background documents, reports, internal documents, presentations, and correspondence with Member States. Maintain and manage an information repository, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and utility of background and logistical materials. Support research and coordination for UNODC's contributions to Secretary-General's reports, Human Rights Council reports, and other system-wide information requests. Assist in responding to requests from other UN entities, the Office of the Executive Director, and the Director of Policy Analysis and Public Affairs, ensuring coordination. Support the design and layout of infographics, web pages, and presentations, including SharePoint and website content. Assist with technical and ICT arrangements for webinars and hybrid events.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, candidates should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Familiarity with MS Teams is also necessary. Knowledge of design tools like Canva or Adobe is considered an asset.
