Nature for Health Systems Approach Facilitator and Project Development Specialist
Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development. The Ecosystems Division focuses on ecosystem-based solutions. This role sits within the Biodiversity and Land Branch and supports the scoping phase of the Nature for Health Multi Partner Trust Fund in Kenya.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to facilitate the scoping phase of the Nature for Health (N4H) Fund in Kenya, focusing on strengthening the environmental and preventive aspects of One Health. The purpose is to foster a common understanding, vision, and commitment among diverse stakeholders to reduce health risks through environmental determinants. The role will contribute to an improved understanding of the links between human, animal, and ecosystem health, mainstreaming these into public health approaches, and supporting evidence-based decision-making to prevent future pandemics and enhance planetary health. The ultimate goal is to produce a co-developed Implementation Project Document detailing activity plans and budgets for the N4H initiative in Kenya.
Responsibilities
Lead the systemic approach facilitation for the N4H Fund's scoping phase in Kenya. Develop a shared understanding of N4H objectives and the One Health arena among stakeholders through reviews and discussions. Design and facilitate workshops to assess the One Health situation, co-design the Implementation Project Document, and manage group dynamics. Apply practical systems thinking tools and create a safe space for discussions and critical reflection. Facilitate the collaborative building of the N4H partnership in Kenya, guiding the establishment of programmatic structures and partner roles. Contribute to the elaboration of the Implementation Project Document, ensuring the integration of systemic approaches and developing relevant terms of reference and key components for the implementation phase.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of postgraduate work experience in knowledge management, organizational learning, and facilitating partnership building in diverse multi-stakeholder environments is required. Demonstrated experience in facilitation, program management, and developing project documents and actionable plans is essential. Experience with systems thinking tools and approaches is also required.
