Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), within its Ecosystems Division, seeks an intern for the Nature for Health project. This role is situated in the Biodiversity, Landscapes and People Unit in Nairobi. The intern will support the Programme Manager and collaborate with various UNEP divisions and regional offices.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience within the UN system, focusing on environmental policy and sustainable development. The intern will contribute to the Nature for Health project by assisting with organizational, communication, and research tasks. Responsibilities
The intern will provide crucial support to the Nature for Health (N4H) Team. Key duties include assisting in the organization of meetings and workshops, which involves preparing documents and managing logistics to ensure project activities run smoothly and achieve desired outcomes. The intern will also support the development of communication materials for print, online, and social media platforms. Additionally, responsibilities include drafting technical documents, facilitating communication with partners, consultants, and implementers regarding programmatic activities, and conducting targeted desktop research to gather background information, facts, and data. The intern will also assist in tracking key policy developments and undertake other tasks as assigned, aligning with their interests and experience.
Work Experience
While specific years of experience are not mandated, demonstrated experience in sustainable development is desirable. Experience in organizing events, conferences, or meetings is also considered an advantage. The role requires the ability to conduct desktop research and track policy developments.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard software applications. Demonstrated keen interest in the UN's work and commitment to its ideals. Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Background in health sciences, One Health, environmental management, biodiversity conservation, development studies, or social sciences is required.
