Digital Communications Officer
Organizational Context
The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the UN's principal judicial organ, comprises 15 judges and has a dual role in settling state disputes and providing legal advisory opinions. Unlike other UN principal organs, the ICJ is serviced by its own Registry, which provides administrative and judicial support. This Digital Communications Officer role is situated within the Registry's Information Department.
Job Purpose
The Digital Communications Officer is responsible for managing and enhancing the International Court of Justice's digital presence, focusing on its website and social media channels. This role aims to increase the Court's digital footprint and online visibility among target audiences and key stakeholders. The officer will guide the digital web strategy, coordinate website development and maintenance, and oversee the creation of new digital platforms. For social media, the incumbent will develop and implement strategies, manage daily operations, create engaging content, and design campaigns. The position also involves managing relationships with external vendors for digital product development, ensuring brand consistency, and providing expertise on digital communication and technology issues.
Responsibilities
The Digital Communications Officer will manage the ICJ's digital presence, including its website and social media. Key responsibilities include guiding the digital web strategy to enhance online presence, coordinating website development and content updates, and overseeing the creation of new digital platforms. The role involves monitoring and analyzing website usage statistics to drive improvements and developing partnerships for digital engagement. For social media, responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies, managing daily channel operations, creating and publishing content, and designing social media campaigns. The officer will also maintain an editorial calendar, update social media policies, and provide regular analysis and reports. Additionally, the role involves managing external vendors for digital product development, ensuring brand consistency, and serving as a focal point for branding guidelines.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in public information, journalism, marketing, or graphic design is required. At least 2 years of dedicated experience managing digital channels (website/social media) is essential. Experience with web/social media analytics, digital campaign delivery, and search engine optimization is required. Experience in international environments, multilingual content management, and with CX/UX is desirable.
