The position operates within the JMAOC.
Job Purpose
The Air Operations Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, cost-efficiency, and effectiveness of air transport operations within UNSOS. This involves meticulous monitoring of all air activities against established regulations, directives, and standards, including ICAO, IATA, and UN Aviation Manuals. The role is responsible for reviewing and assigning air tasking requests, developing daily flight schedules, managing various types of flights (routine, special, military), and overseeing flight tracking and coordination. By ensuring compliance and optimizing resource allocation, the assistant directly contributes to the successful logistical and operational support provided by UNSOS in Somalia.
Responsibilities
Monitor air operations for compliance with Air Tasking Orders (ATOs), Standard Operating Procedures, UN directives, and international aviation standards (ICAO, IATA). Review Air Tasking Requests to ensure appropriate air asset assignment for safety, cost-efficiency, and effectiveness. Verify daily ATOs for conformance, resolve conflicting priorities, and ensure timely communication. Manage routine, special, and military flights. Supervise flight following, tracking, and coordination with relevant authorities. Assist in aviation contract and crew management, and monitor UN air asset utilization. Support the processing of AUR and AIMS, including report preparation and data compilation. Contribute to the Aviation Quality Management System (QMS) program implementation. Perform other assigned duties by aviation management.
Work Experience
A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in air transport operations or aviation safety is required. A driver's license is also necessary. Experience in managing routine, special, and military flights, along with flight tracking and coordination, is essential.
