The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) in Valencia, Spain, provides essential Supply Chain, Geospatial, and ICT services globally. This Senior Liaison Assistant role sits within the Service for Geospatial Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT), reporting to the Head of Premises. The position acts as a key intermediary between UNGSC/UNICTFV and external entities, managing institutional relations and protocol.
Job Purpose
The Senior Liaison Assistant serves as a crucial link between the UNGSC/UNICTFV and various external stakeholders, including government ministries, embassies, local authorities, and community organizations. This role is vital for fostering and maintaining constructive relationships, ensuring compliance with Host Country Agreements, and facilitating the smooth operation of UNGSC activities in Valencia. The incumbent will manage diplomatic correspondence, prepare official communications, and deliver presentations to promote the UNGSC's mandate and activities. Additionally, the role involves supporting high-level visits, outreach programs, and institutional events, while also contributing to the projection of the UNICTF's image. Effective management of external relations and protocol is central to the purpose of this position, ensuring the organization's privileges and immunities are upheld and its operational objectives are met.
Responsibilities
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with host country representatives, foreign counterparts, UN offices, and local authorities. Facilitate compliance with Host Country Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding, addressing issues related to entitlements and immunities. Develop and maintain primary contacts with host country officials at all levels. Build effective partnerships with government bodies, associations, institutions, civil society, and media. Foster positive relations with educational, cultural, and professional organizations to enhance the UNICTF's image. Support the organization of high-level visits, meetings, outreach programs, and institutional events. Prepare diplomatic and official correspondence, including Notes Verbales and letters. Draft speeches, press releases, talking points, and meeting reports. Deliver briefings and presentations on UNGSC/UNICTF mandate and activities. Supervise and manage assigned team members, ensuring quality of work.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of related work experience in liaison and protocol services supporting senior management is required. This is reduced to eight years for candidates with a university degree. Experience in international organizations or public administration is desirable, as is experience managing protocol requests and privileges/immunities for a diverse client base.
