Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), is implementing the Urban-Act project. This project aims to support the transformation towards low-carbon and resilient urban development in the Asia-Pacific region by assisting government partners in aligning policies and regulations with climate and sustainability targets. The role of Knowledge Management Associate sits within ESCAP's Sustainable Urban Development Section.
Job Purpose
The Knowledge Management Associate, Cities and Climate Change, plays a critical role in supporting ESCAP and the Urban-Act project's mission to accelerate the shift toward low-carbon and resilient urban development in the Asia-Pacific region. This position is instrumental in ensuring that the project’s knowledge outputs, including technical content, stakeholder experiences, and policy insights, are effectively captured, curated, and disseminated across national and regional platforms. The associate will contribute to strengthening the capacities of partner governments and urban institutions by promoting targeted knowledge exchange, peer learning, and policy dialogue. Through structured knowledge products and engagement tools, the position will support ESCAP’s efforts to facilitate multi-level collaboration among Urban-Act countries and cities, ensuring that regional insights contribute meaningfully to national and subnational policy coherence and climate action.
Responsibilities
The Knowledge Management Associate will be responsible for the effective delivery of Output IV of the Urban-Act project, focusing on enhancing knowledge generation, learning, and community building. Key duties include coordinating the production and visualization of knowledge products such as policy briefs, discussion papers, and reports, ensuring they reflect participatory processes and city-level insights. The associate will contribute to the development and maintenance of the knowledge portal on the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform, aligning content with emerging trends and partner needs. Responsibilities also encompass supporting ESCAP’s community of practice on cities and climate change and organizing the Urban-Act Webinar Series to foster peer learning and policy dialogue. Additionally, the role involves supporting project monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities by producing visual summaries, synthesizing learning, and contributing to the documentation of project outcomes, thereby strengthening the project's evidence base and learning culture.
Work Experience
Experience is required in sustainable urban development or a similar field. This includes supporting research, developing communication products (e.g., branding, video, flyers), coordinating workshops or webinars, and contributing to knowledge products. Specific experience in webinar coordination and management of knowledge products is also necessary.
Skills
