Cities and Climate Change Technical Assistant
Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), is seeking a Cities and Climate Change Technical Assistant. This role supports the Urban-Act project, which aims to foster low-carbon and resilient urban development in the Asia-Pacific region by assisting governments in aligning policies with climate and sustainability targets.
Job Purpose
The Cities and Climate Change Technical Assistant will support the Urban-Act project's objective of transforming urban development towards low-carbon and resilient practices in the Asia-Pacific. The role involves visualizing data for knowledge products, conducting research and analysis for climate data, coordinating webinar series, supporting video production, and providing administrative assistance for project events. The ultimate goal is to enhance knowledge sharing, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and contribute to the implementation of national climate change targets and Sustainable Development Goals within the region.
Responsibilities
Provide research assistance, including desk reviews and data compilation, and support data cleaning and basic analysis. Develop simple data visualizations, charts, and infographics to communicate findings effectively. Manage administrative and technical aspects of the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform, including content updates and organization. Support intergovernmental meetings and side events with administrative and logistical assistance. Facilitate key activities for the Urban-Act Indonesia regional activities, including coordination and maintaining meeting notes. Prepare communication materials such as slide decks and briefing notes, and assist with information sharing among stakeholders. Support the restructuring of the Urban-SDG Knowledge Platform and assist in preparing and disseminating communication materials highlighting project achievements.
Work Experience
Experience in sustainable urban development is required. This includes supporting research, developing communication products (branding, video, flyers), coordinating workshops or webinars, and contributing to knowledge products. Experience with data visualization and administrative support for events is also beneficial.
Skills
Research and data analysis, data visualization (charts, infographics), content management, administrative and logistical support, event coordination (webinars, meetings), communication material preparation, proficiency in design software (e.g., Canva), English fluency (written and spoken).
