Counsellor (part-time)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok requires professional staff counselling services. This role supports the Health & Wellbeing Unit, aiming to enhance staff mental health, job satisfaction, and work effectiveness through accessible counselling and psycho-social support.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide professional counselling services to UN staff and their dependents in Bangkok, both on-site and online. The role contributes to improving the overall mental health and well-being of staff by offering psycho-social education, resilience-building programs, and individual/group counselling. This support is crucial for managing stress, particularly during crises like pandemics, and for enhancing staff effectiveness and job satisfaction within the UN Secretariat's ESCAP Health & Wellbeing Unit.
Responsibilities
Design and deliver training programs on stress management, crisis intervention, resilience building, and psychological first aid. Adjust and update training materials in collaboration with the ESCAP Medical Officer and the NY-Staff Counsellor's Office. Provide individual and group counselling sessions addressing issues such as stress, harassment, substance abuse, family matters, and work-related problems. Deliver training to ESCAP personnel on topics including burnout, anxiety, stress management, resilience, time management, and conflict resolution. Collaborate with the SCO team to identify training needs and provide feedback on materials. Offer specialized expertise for ESCAP’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Action Plan. Perform other assigned duties, ensuring services are provided both on-site and remotely as needed.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in providing psychological counselling and/or psychotherapy is required. Additional experience in areas such as alcohol/substance abuse, stress management, traumatic stress, cross-cultural communication, or conflict resolution is desirable.
