Organizational Context
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is launching a new initiative, the “Energy Transition for Green Growth and Prosperity” (ETGGP) programme. This programme focuses on Southeast Asia, aiming to accelerate energy transition and green industrial development by strengthening institutional capacities and supporting country-led initiatives. The role sits within ESCAP, specifically involving collaboration between the Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division and the Energy Division.
Job Purpose
This consultancy role supports the implementation of the ETGGP programme and the communication activities for an Energy Foundation-supported project. The consultant will be responsible for cross-divisional coordination, supporting governance, engaging with donors, managing reporting, organizing high-level meetings, and developing tailored written and digital communication products. The primary objective is to enhance project visibility, facilitate smooth programme delivery, and disseminate knowledge and communication outputs related to energy transition and green growth in the Asia-Pacific region. The role contributes to strengthening capacities in policy development, energy system planning, finance, data, and participation in sustainable energy technology value chains.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide substantive input to the ETGGP programme's inception phase, including liaising with internal stakeholders, facilitating governance processes, preparing meeting materials, and engaging with donors. Key responsibilities include facilitating advisory group meetings, inception workshops, and expert roundtables, revising concept notes, developing agendas, preparing presentation materials, and documenting key discussion points and action items. Additionally, the consultant will develop and disseminate knowledge and communication products for both the ETGGP and the Energy Foundation project, such as policy briefs, infographics, blogs, and digital content. This includes enhancing project visibility through social media and coordinating with ESCAP's communication teams to ensure alignment with broader initiatives. Ad hoc assignments as requested are also part of the role.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, strategic planning, or partnership development is required. Good understanding of the UN system and knowledge of development work in Asia and the Pacific are highly desirable.
