Organizational Context
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) in Brindisi, Italy, provides essential Supply Chain, Geospatial, and IT services to UN missions globally. This internship is within the Digital and Compliance Unit (DCAU) of the Service and Information Security Management Section (SISMS), supporting the "UNGSC - Post-DANA DR Capabilities Enhancement" Project.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the "UNGSC - Post-DANA DR Capabilities Enhancement" Project, transitioning from manual to automated and validated resilience. The role will contribute to enhancing disaster recovery operations and planning by assisting in updating contingency plans, identifying technical gaps, and coordinating recovery exercises. A key focus is on validating automated recovery workflows, developing resilience dashboards using PowerBI for real-time visibility, and exploring Generative AI for automating DR documentation and predictive analytics. The intern will also help maintain the Service Continuity Library, ensuring critical assets have accessible recovery documentation, thereby strengthening the UNGSC's overall resilience posture.
Responsibilities
Support Disaster Recovery (DR) Operations & Planning: Assist in reviewing and updating Information System Contingency Plans (ISCPs) to align with current infrastructure. Identify gaps between defined Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and actual technical capabilities. Coordinate Disaster Recovery Exercises (DRX), tracking metrics and lessons learned. Contribute to Resilience Automation: Validate automated recovery workflows for correct execution without manual intervention. Support Resilience Dashboards & Visualization: Build interactive PowerBI dashboards for real-time visibility into DR readiness of mission-critical services. Visualize testing coverage metrics to ensure Service Owner compliance. Leverage Generative AI: Research and support the use of GenAI tools for parsing system configurations and generating DR "Runbooks". Explore AI-driven predictive analytics for failover capacity bottlenecks. Contribute to Documentation and Standardization: Assist in maintaining the Service Continuity Library with valid and accessible recovery documentation for all critical assets.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this UN Internship Programme. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Desirable experience includes knowledge of disaster recovery, cybersecurity frameworks, AI/ML for security operations, PowerBI or similar visualization tools, and programming skills in languages like Python or Java.
