Organizational Context
The Joint Inspection Unit (JIU) is the UN system's sole independent external oversight body, conducting system-wide evaluations, inspections, and investigations. It aims to enhance management efficiency and inter-agency coordination. This internship is based at the UN Office in Geneva (UNOG) and supports the JIU's review teams.
Job Purpose
This internship provides an invaluable opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in oversight and evaluation within the United Nations system. Interns will support JIU review teams by assisting with evaluations, inspections, and investigations, contributing to the enhancement of management and administrative efficiency across UN agencies. The role involves assisting with ad hoc demands of the Unit, offering exposure to best practices and information-sharing initiatives. Specific work assignments and outputs will be agreed upon with successful candidates, fostering a hands-on learning experience in a dynamic international environment.
Responsibilities
Assist review teams within the Joint Inspection Unit (JIU) with system-wide evaluations, inspections, and investigations. Support the enhancement of management and administrative efficiency across UN agencies. Contribute to promoting greater coordination among UN agencies and other oversight bodies. Facilitate information-sharing by identifying best practices and proposing benchmarks. Fulfill ad hoc demands of the Unit as required. Engage in specific work assignments and contribute to the production of review outputs, as agreed with supervisors. Gain practical experience in the field of oversight and evaluation at the UN.
