Organizational Context
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), a regional commission of the UN Secretariat, focuses on promoting sustainable development and regional cooperation. The Social Development Division (SDD) within ESCAP implements technical cooperation projects to support member states in advancing disability inclusion, particularly through private sector engagement, aligning with the Jakarta Declaration.
Job Purpose
This role provides crucial administrative, project management, and outreach support to the Social Development Division (SDD) of ESCAP. The purpose is to ensure the effective implementation of technical cooperation projects aimed at enhancing disability inclusion in target countries. The contractor will contribute to research, knowledge product development, event organization, and communication efforts, including a social media campaign. A key contribution will be supporting ESCAP's implementation and reporting of the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS), thereby advancing the goals of the Jakarta Declaration and fostering disability-inclusive employment and business practices across the Asia-Pacific region.
Responsibilities
The individual contractor will provide administrative, project management, and outreach assistance for technical cooperation projects in target countries. This includes supporting research, consultation, and drafting for knowledge product development. The role also involves providing administrative and substantive support for organizing internal and external meetings. Additionally, the contractor will support the implementation of a social media campaign related to the Jakarta Declaration and assist with ESCAP’s implementation and reporting of the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS). The work contributes to advancing disability-inclusive employment and business practices through multi-stakeholder mechanisms in countries like Thailand, Viet Nam, and China.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of work experience in disability research and/or projects is required. Experience working within the UN system on disability inclusion matters is a strong asset. Experience in providing training on disability inclusion is also strongly preferred. Basic project management and strong event organization skills are necessary.
Skills
Project management, research, event organization, administrative support, outreach, communication (written and oral), analytical skills, Microsoft Office proficiency. Knowledge of national languages in the Asia-Pacific region is an asset.
