Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat, specifically the Development Coordination Office (DCO), supports the UN Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) and manages the Resident Coordinator (RC) system. RCs are senior UN representatives at the country level, leading UN country teams and coordinating UN support for the 2030 Agenda. This internship offers exposure to various branches within DCO, including Policy, Strategic Partnerships, and Data & Analytics.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the UN Development Coordination Office (DCO) in its mission to strengthen the UN development system and coordinate UN support for countries implementing the 2030 Agenda. Interns will contribute to critical areas such as policy analysis, strategic planning, data analytics, and programme facilitation. The role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in international development coordination, support senior management, and contribute to the effective functioning of the Resident Coordinator system. Interns will work on diverse tasks, gaining exposure to different branches within DCO and contributing to the UN's global development efforts.
Responsibilities
Interns will provide coordination and executive support, including collating guidance materials, assisting with knowledge capture and sharing, and facilitating online communities of practice. They will support the preparation of senior-level management meetings, conferences, and country-level events. Specific responsibilities within Track 1 (Strategic Planning, Data & Analytics) include supporting data analytics, developing visualization solutions, building dashboards, performing ad-hoc analysis, and experimenting with digital solutions like Generative AI. Track 2 (Policy Analysis & Programme Facilitation) involves monitoring global trends, preparing analytical reports, assisting in strategy and policy formulation, supporting knowledge management, and contributing to the policy process from identification to evaluation.
