Organizational Context
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) serves as the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Job Purpose
To advance PAHO's technical cooperation in the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on Air Quality and Health, addressing the significant health effects of air pollution in the Americas and supporting Member States in reducing mortality attributable to air pollution.
Responsibilities
Develop a monitoring framework tool for the Regional Roadmap on Air Quality and Health, identifying information sources, update frequency, partners, and collection mechanisms. Identify priority products for PAHO's roadmap implementation. Prepare baseline indicators for the roadmap, proposing conditions and identifying partners for specific developments. Organize outreach and capacity building events, including the PAHO-AIDIS Inter American Clean Air Day, Clean Air For Blue Skies Day, AirQ+ Regional Expert Group sessions, and roadmap implementation capacity building. Produce an end-of-year report detailing program progress, roadmap implementation, AirQ+ Expert Group progress, and project progress funded by voluntary contributions.
Work Experience
Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in air quality and health, including technical cooperation with public offices. Proven experience in planning processes, monitoring frameworks, and reporting to international donors. Proven experience in preparing funding proposals and securing resources. Experience using AirQ+ and other health impact assessment tools. Experience working with international organizations and countries in the Americas. Familiarity with PAHO's work in air quality and health is preferred.
Skills
In-depth understanding of air pollution, its sources, dispersion, monitoring technologies, abatement strategies, and policy-making. Ability to engage with stakeholders, listen to viewpoints, and facilitate discussions. Knowledge of WHO Air Quality Guidelines and health effects of air pollution. Ability to articulate integrated approaches for air quality, climate change mitigation, and health gains. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook) and working knowledge of AI Tools.
