Organizational Context
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) serves as the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Job Purpose
To support countries in the surveillance, prevention, and control of high-risk diseases with pandemic and epidemic potential through forecasting, characterization of infectious diseases/risks, and development of evidence-based strategies to predict, prevent, detect, and respond to infectious hazards.
Responsibilities
Coordinate training and implementation of genomic surveillance for E. coli, including meetings, logistics, and technical follow-up. Develop and organize protocols, guides, and databases, and coordinate regional and collaborative seminars. Support the joint PNALC-ReLAVRA agenda and the implementation of the regional server, ensuring coordination and relevant documentation.
Work Experience
Essential: Seven (7) years of experience in genomic surveillance, foodborne disease surveillance in laboratories, and related work areas. Desirable: Previous experience working in any of these areas in a national public health laboratory would be an asset.
