Organizational Context
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading UN agency for migration, promoting humane and orderly migration globally. It collaborates with governments and partners to save lives, protect migrants, address displacement, and facilitate legal migration pathways. The Policy Research and Migration Law Unit implements the National Contact Point Austria within the European Migration Network.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Head of the Policy Research and Migration Law Unit, contributing to the development, supervision, coordination, and implementation of research activities. A key focus is the execution of the National Contact Point Austria for the European Migration Network. The incumbent will be responsible for producing research outputs, analyzing data, and presenting findings to various stakeholders. This position plays a crucial part in advancing IOM's understanding and response to migration and asylum issues within Austria and the broader European context, ensuring evidence-based policy advice and program development.
Responsibilities
Act as Deputy for the Head of Unit, assuming duties in their absence. Assist in supervising research and drafting studies, reports, policy briefs, and other outputs on migration, integration, and asylum within the Austrian and European context, specifically for the European Migration Network. Conduct statistical analysis and data visualization for research findings. Present study outcomes to national stakeholders, international forums, and senior management. Develop and maintain a network of relevant migration and asylum stakeholders. Support project implementation, including budget monitoring, donor reporting, and project development through concept notes and proposal drafting. Plan, organize, and prepare events, workshops, and conferences. Provide general administrative support for projects and related activities.
Work Experience
Experience is required in budget management, donor reporting, and project development. Prior experience within IOM or other international organizations is advantageous. Experience in overseeing research activities, academic research, and working with statistics is beneficial. Knowledge of Austrian and EU migration and asylum policies and context is also desirable.
Skills
Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills. Excellent computer proficiency, particularly in MS Excel. Ability to draft clear and concise research papers in both German and English.
