National Migration Health Physician

This role operates within the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Quito, Ecuador, reporting to the Chief of Mission and the Chief Migration Health Officer.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for the effective operation of the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Quito, Ecuador. The physician will be responsible for conducting comprehensive health assessments for refugees and migrants, ensuring compliance with the technical requirements of resettlement countries. This includes managing medical examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatment protocols for conditions such as TB and STIs. The position also involves overseeing quality improvement initiatives, managing health data, and coordinating procurement of medical supplies. The ultimate goal is to facilitate safe and orderly migration by ensuring the health and well-being of migrants throughout their journey, providing essential health support and accurate documentation.
Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operations of the Migration Health Assessment Center (MHAC) in coordination with the Chief Migration Health Officer. Conduct health assessments for refugees and migrants, including medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB management, and pre-departure procedures, ensuring accuracy and completeness of records. Manage and treat TB and sexually transmitted infections, and support HIV activities. Coordinate immunization and presumptive treatment programs according to resettlement country guidelines. Assess medical feasibility for return and provide travel health support for migrants under various programs. Implement and maintain quality improvement systems, monitor performance indicators, and ensure adherence to global and local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Manage migration health data, ensuring quality and providing regular reports. Oversee financial aspects of the MHAC, including budget preparation and financial reporting. Coordinate procurement of medical equipment, vaccines, and supplies.
Work Experience
Requires continuous professional clinical experience, preferably in a multidisciplinary hospital setting, with the last posting within the last three years. Knowledge of clinical medicine, patient safety, and infection prevention and control is essential. Expertise in pediatrics, pulmonology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, public health, or healthcare management is advantageous.
