Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. In Greece, IOM operates five Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Minors, providing essential services including accommodation, food, legal and psychosocial support. This role is situated within the "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027" and operates under the direct supervision of the Shelter Coordinator.
Job Purpose
The Cook will be responsible for supporting the planning and preparation of meals for residents within an IOM Accommodation Center for Unaccompanied Minors. This involves ensuring the provision of nutritious and safe meals, twice daily, while adhering to organizational standards for quality, cost-effectiveness, and transparency. The role contributes to the overall well-being of the unaccompanied migrant children by addressing their basic needs through food services. The Cook will also play a role in maintaining kitchen hygiene, managing supplies, and potentially training beneficiaries in meal preparation, thereby supporting the center's operational efficiency and the beneficiaries' integration.
Responsibilities
Key duties include supervising the cleanliness of the kitchen space and equipment, and preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals twice daily. The Cook will be responsible for recording kitchen supplies, noting shortages, and submitting reports to the Shelter Coordinator, ensuring service quality, cost-effectiveness, and transparency. Adherence to food safety handling policies, personal hygiene procedures, and instructions from the Shelter Coordinator is mandatory. The role involves participating in staff meetings, communicating with other teams regarding meal planning, and training beneficiaries in meal preparation. The Cook will also perform other assigned duties as required.
Work Experience
Prior experience in a similar role is required. The candidate must be willing to work morning shifts, including holidays and weekends. Experience working with children or vulnerable populations, and in a multicultural environment, is preferred.
