Organizational Context

Effective communication is crucial for institutional credibility, public understanding, and stakeholder support. This role supports the Chief of Mission and National Project Officer in enhancing IOM Cameroon's visibility, reputation, and strategic positioning through public relations and media engagement.

Job Purpose

The Communication Associate supports the planning and implementation of public relations, media engagement, institutional visibility, and stakeholder outreach activities for IOM Cameroon. This role is essential for enhancing and maintaining the organization's visibility, reputation, and strategic positioning. By fostering effective communication and public understanding, the associate contributes to strengthening IOM's credibility with government counterparts, donors, beneficiaries, media, and the general public. The position plays a key role in highlighting IOM's work and promoting humane and orderly migration, aligning with the organization's broader mission.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement communication strategies to position IOM as a leading migration agency. Create and disseminate public information materials for various channels, including websites, social media, and newsletters. Produce content such as blog entries, press notes, and video scripts. Provide guidance on media requests and interview opportunities. Liaise with media and government counterparts. Participate in inter-agency communication working groups. Monitor social media and local media for trends and misinformation. Produce feedback reports for humanitarian partners and collaborate on donor reporting. Assess the impact and reach of communication activities.

Work Experience

Experience in social welfare, NGOs, local organizations, or government is advantageous. Experience communicating with legal representatives is a plus. Proficiency in computer applications, data analysis, visualization, and presentation is required. Knowledge of SQL Server is a distinct advantage.

Skills

Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Creativity and initiative. Fluency in English and French (oral and written). Teamwork, delivering results, knowledge management, accountability, and communication competencies are expected.
