Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN agency promoting humane and orderly migration. This role is based in the APULIA Region, Italy, and operates under the general supervision of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean and Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta, with direct supervision from the Project Coordinator.
Job Purpose
This role assists in the implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) counselling and activities for the project 'Training, Assistance and Territorial Support for the Efficiency of Assisted Voluntary Returns'. The purpose is to support migrants interested in returning to their countries of origin by providing information, counselling, and assistance with the application process. The role contributes to facilitating orderly migration and supporting vulnerable individuals through IOM's mandate.
Responsibilities
Key duties include establishing contact with local stakeholders to provide AVRR information and strengthen referral mechanisms. The role involves delivering AVRR information sessions and tailored counselling to Third Country Nationals interested in returning. Responsibilities also include assisting migrants in completing AVRR applications, submitting them through the online system, and maintaining organized case files. Disseminating AVRR information materials, coordinating with consulates for travel documents, and liaising with Italian institutions like Police Headquarters and Prefectures are crucial. Additionally, the role supports the organization of transportation for medical and non-medical cases, collects data for reporting, and contributes to success stories.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of experience in the migration sector, including direct assistance to migrant populations, particularly those in vulnerable situations. Proven experience working with Italian institutions, civic society, and diaspora groups is necessary. Experience in a multicultural team is required, and previous AVRR counselling experience is an asset.
