Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency focused on promoting humane and orderly migration. It works with partners to save lives, protect people on the move, and facilitate regular migration pathways. This role is based in the Autonomous Province of Trento, Italy, and operates under the supervision of the Project Coordinator.

Job Purpose

This position assists in the implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) counselling and activities for the project "Training, Assistance and Territorial Support for the Efficiency of Assisted Voluntary Returns." The role involves providing information and tailored counselling to Third Country Nationals (TCNs) interested in returning to their countries of origin. It supports the application process, ensures proper documentation, and facilitates communication with relevant authorities to aid migrants in their return journey. The aim is to contribute to the efficient and humane management of voluntary returns.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include establishing contact with local stakeholders to support AVRR information and counselling for migrants, and strengthening referral mechanisms. The role involves providing AVRR information sessions and personalized counselling to Third Country Nationals (TCNs) interested in returning home. This includes assisting migrants in completing AVRR applications, submitting them through the online system, and maintaining organized case files. The incumbent will disseminate AVRR information materials, coordinate with local medical facilities for necessary documentation for medical cases, and collect data for statistical reporting and profiling. Additionally, the role requires maintaining close coordination with Italian institutions like Police Headquarters and Prefectures to facilitate the authorization process for eligible migrants.

Work Experience

Requires at least two years of experience in the migration sector, with a focus on direct assistance to migrant populations, including those in vulnerable situations. Proven experience working with Italian institutions, civil society, and diaspora groups is essential. Experience in a multicultural team is also required, and prior AVRR counselling experience is considered an asset.
