Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency promoting humane and orderly migration. This role is based in the Sicily Region, Italy, and operates under the Coordination Office for the Mediterranean.
Job Purpose
This position supports the implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) activities within the project "Training, Assistance and Territorial Support for the Efficiency of Assisted Voluntary Returns." The role is crucial for providing essential information and counselling to Third Country Nationals (TCNs) interested in returning to their countries of origin. By facilitating the AVRR application process and coordinating with various stakeholders, the incumbent contributes to the effective and humane management of voluntary returns, ensuring migrants receive necessary support and guidance throughout the process.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include establishing and maintaining contact with local stakeholders such as municipalities, NGOs, and diaspora groups to enhance AVRR information dissemination and referral mechanisms. The role involves providing direct AVRR information sessions and tailored counselling to interested Third Country Nationals. This includes assisting migrants in completing applications, submitting them to relevant authorities, and meticulously managing all related documentation. The incumbent will also disseminate AVRR informational materials, coordinate with police and immigration offices to facilitate the assessment process, and assist in organizing transportation for beneficiaries, including obtaining necessary medical documentation. Furthermore, the position requires collecting data for statistical reporting, contributing to success stories, and performing other project-related tasks as assigned.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of experience in the migration sector, with a focus on direct assistance to migrant populations, including those in vulnerable situations. Proven experience working with Italian institutions, civil society, and diaspora groups is essential. Experience in a multicultural team is also required, and previous AVRR counselling experience is considered an asset.
