This role supports the operation of Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) in Greece, funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund.
Job Purpose
This Social Worker role is crucial for the effective operation of IOM's Accommodation Centers for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) in Athens, Greece. The position operates within the framework of the "Greece Programme - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027." Under the supervision of the Shelter Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide essential support services to UMC, ensuring their well-being and facilitating access to necessary resources. The role contributes to IOM's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration by supporting vulnerable children and assisting in their integration and development within Greece.
Responsibilities
The Social Worker is responsible for the orderly operation of the assigned Accommodation Center for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC). Key duties include conducting social histories, facilitating access to community services, social programs, and vocational training. The role involves organizing individual and group support sessions to address challenges and meet children's needs, fostering their social network development, and supporting their gradual autonomy. Responsibilities also encompass referring children for medical care, monitoring their health, and acting as a Case Worker for specific children. This includes implementing Individual Action Plans, conducting Best Interest Assessments, maintaining child files, and supporting children through the entry and departure processes. General support includes escorting children to appointments, distributing essential items, and reinforcing center rules.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience is desirable. Previous experience working with children is considered an asset.
Skills
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility. Ability to work with minimal supervision and under difficult conditions. Good computer literacy. Willingness to work flexible shifts, including holidays, weekends, and night emergencies. A valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is advantageous.
