Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN agency dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It works with partners to save lives, protect migrants, address displacement, and facilitate legal migration pathways. This role supports IOM's mission by assisting in the implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) activities within Italy.

Job Purpose

This Project Assistant role is crucial for the effective implementation of the AVRR project, focusing on Training, Assistance, and Territorial Support for Assisted Voluntary Returns. The incumbent will provide essential support under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, contributing to the delivery of AVRR counselling and related activities. The position involves direct engagement with beneficiaries and stakeholders across various Italian regions, ensuring that information on AVRR is disseminated effectively and that individuals interested in voluntary return receive appropriate guidance and assistance. The role is key to facilitating orderly migration processes and supporting vulnerable individuals.

Responsibilities

The Project Assistant will be responsible for maintaining contact with local stakeholders to disseminate information on Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR). This includes supporting the organization of information sessions and awareness-raising activities. The role involves providing direct counselling to Third Country Nationals interested in voluntary return, referring complex cases, and assisting beneficiaries with application forms. Ensuring proper filing of documentation, promoting the AVRR toll-free number, and undertaking duty travel as required are also key duties. The assistant will perform other assigned tasks to support the project's objectives.

Work Experience

Experience is required in social assistance, counselling, community outreach, case management, or support for migrants, refugees, or vulnerable individuals. Experience working with NGOs, social services, reception centres, municipalities, or migrant communities is advantageous. Previous roles as a social worker or cultural mediator are desirable, and prior experience in AVRR counselling is considered an asset.

Skills

Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to multitask, prioritize, work independently, and under pressure. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required. A driving license is also required.
