Project Assistant - Family Reunification
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It works with partners to save lives, protect migrants, and facilitate legal pathways. The Project Assistant role supports the Chief of Mission and Project Manager in implementing the Family Reunification project within the Country Office for Mediterranean.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant - Family Reunification is responsible for assisting in the operational implementation of the Family Reunification project. This involves supporting the coordination of DNA testing, liaising with external offices and laboratories, and maintaining communication with beneficiaries. The role contributes to the accurate monitoring and visibility of family reunification as a legal migration channel by collecting and compiling data. Additionally, the assistant provides support to beneficiaries, referring cases with specific needs to the Project Manager, and assists with administrative tasks and reporting to ensure smooth project execution and compliance with established procedures.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting the organization of DNA testing for family reunification by liaising with IOM Country Offices and Italian Consulates, maintaining beneficiary contact, and coordinating with laboratories for timely testing. The role involves assisting in overall project implementation through data collection and compilation, contributing to monitoring and visibility efforts. Support is provided to beneficiaries by gathering information and referring cases with specific needs to the Project Manager. The Project Assistant also handles administrative aspects of the project, collects relevant documents for reporting, and performs other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience is required in direct work with migrants or asylum seekers, focusing on legal procedures and immigration law. Additional experience is needed in applied data analytics using tools like R/Python or PowerBI, and in designing data visualizations. Experience in administrative procedures and liaising with migration authorities is also necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in International, EU, and Italian legislation on migration and international protection is required. Knowledge of the Italian family reunification procedure and relevant EU legal frameworks is essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for a multicultural setting are necessary. The role requires proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with spreadsheet, database, and web-based management systems.
