IOM Finland, a country office of the International Organization for Migration, specializes in Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR). With over 40 years of global experience, IOM Finland partners with the Finnish Immigration Service to facilitate safe and dignified voluntary returns from Finland. This role supports AVRR case processing within the IOM Country Office.
Job Purpose
The AVRR Project Assistant - Case Worker provides essential operational and administrative support for the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) program in Finland. This involves assisting eligible beneficiaries in returning to their countries of origin in a humane, safe, and dignified manner. The role contributes to comprehensive return assistance, which may include travel arrangements, counselling, document acquisition, escort provision, departure/transit/arrival support, and reintegration payments. The position operates under the direct supervision of the AVRR/CT Project Coordinator and the overall guidance of the Head of Office of Mission of IOM Finland, ensuring the effective implementation of AVRR services.
Responsibilities
The AVRR Project Assistant - Case Worker is responsible for processing AVRR cases, including registration, follow-up on incomplete information, and preparing travel and reintegration payments. This includes coordinating international and domestic travel arrangements and informing relevant stakeholders of movements. The role involves responding to inquiries from authorities and clients regarding voluntary return and reintegration services, and providing general counselling via email, phone, and in person. The assistant will participate in outreach activities, brief staff and potential returnees, and provide departure assistance at the airport, including outside regular hours. Responsibilities also include assisting returnees in obtaining necessary travel documents by communicating with embassies and consular offices, and performing administrative tasks such as maintaining case files and collecting supporting documentation.
Work Experience
Experience is required in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and internally displaced persons is also necessary. Prior work in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions is considered an advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint) is required. Experience in an intercultural setting and good teamwork skills are also noted as important competencies.
